Crops in Finney County, Kansas, seen in a NASA image taken on 24 June 2001. The water for the fields is drawn from Ogallala Aquifer, which lies under ca. 175,000 square miles of the Great Plains. Farmers in the region have adopted the highly efficient method of central pivot irrigation, drawing water out of a single well in the center of the field.
